Alone Together / Fall out boy
長らく更新してませんでしたが、訳していなかったわけではないんです…。
日本語も英語も難しくて、心の底から自分の語彙のなさを嘆いておりました。
この曲はかなり迷走しました。
まず曲のコンセプトを捉えられず迷走し、次にコンセプトは決まっても訳が迷走し…。
蓋を開けて見れば、歌詞の中の主人公も迷走していました。
今回の主人公は何かしらの病気の患者です。
アルコールなのか、ドラッグなのか、もしくは精神疾患なのかはわかりませんが、その病気が原因で彼女と破局しかかっています。
この曲は、今度こそ病気を克服してみせるので、一緒にいてくれないかと彼女に尋ねるメッセージソングとなっています。
が、個人的には、"Tonight I'm high as a private jet"と言っている時点で、病気は克服できてないような気がします…。

一ヶ月ほど、ぼーっとしておりました。
間に夏季休業を挟みつつ。
そんな私は、ただいまミュージカル熱を発症しております。
そんな訳で今回はRENTのSeasons of loveを訳してみました。
ミュージカルは、言いたいことは割とはっきりと言ってくれるので、そこまで訳に悩みませんでした。

またしても私が泣きそうになる歌の一つです。
私の貧しい日本語でこの歌に込められた想いをぐちゃぐちゃと述べるのも憚られるほど、ロックに対する熱い想いが詰まっています。
"You are what you love, Not who loves you"
ロックに限った事ではないと思います。
誰に愛されるかは問題ではなく、自分の心がどこにあるかが大事なのだと思います。
たとえ自分の愛するものを他の誰かが否定しても、それでその人に嫌われたとしても、自分が愛する事こそが重要なのだと思います。

少し旅に出ておりました。
出先に携帯を持っていくのを忘れたもので、先週はまるっと更新できませんでした…。
さて、今回はFall out boy の Favorite Record です。
内容としては、一夏のアバンチュールが如き短い恋をした男女の男側が、その恋を懐かしむ、もしくは諦めきれない歌です。
何度聴いても飽きない自分の大好きな歌のように、彼女との関係性もどれだけ深めたとしても深め足りないといった心情を歌っています。
また一方、自身をレコードに例え、レコードのくるくる回る様がまるで彼女の一挙一動に翻弄される自分のようだと歌っています。
ランシド、ダンジグは80年代に活躍したバンドおよびヴォーカルだそうです。
恥ずかしながら、一度も聴いたことがないので、これを機会に聴いてみようかな、などと思っております。

この歌を知ったのは YouTube アーティストの Sam Tsui 氏がカヴァーしていたのがきっかけです。
この歌の主人公の若くて繊細で、無垢で清らかな感じがとても素敵で、多くの人もそう感じるのか、2010年の曲ですが、様々な人がカヴァーしています。
さて、この歌を聴くと先月の今日亡くなった YouTube アーティストの Christina Grimmie を思い出します。
まだまだ若い彼女には、叶えたい夢が沢山あったのでは、と思います。
せめて彼女がこの歌の主人公のように心安らかに眠っている事を願います。

水曜日には間に合いませんでした…。
さて、今回の歌は私の最近のお気に入りである Fall out boy の Jet Pack Blues です。
American Beauty / American Psycho と言うアルバムに収録されている曲です。
そこここに映画ネタが仕込まれているアルバムで、そのおかげか歌の情景も鮮明に浮かんでくる歌が多いです。
アルバム一枚まるまる訳したいと野望を燃やしておりますが、なかなかに難航しております。
題名にもなっている Jet Pack とは、SFなどで出てくるランドセルのように噴射器を背負って空を飛ぶ、という道具のことです。
この歌は後悔、別れを歌ったものなので、別れの隠喩として、空飛ぶジェットパックのブルースとしているのではないか、と思われます。
